Where Families Comes To Keep In Touch
Documenting of family historie, legacies and genealogies. The Recording And Archiving of family Histories for future generations

hen Alex Haley presented his book "Roots" to the world, many people were amazed by the genealogical cohesiveness of what we would finally recognize as being Haley's genealogical lineage. In the beginning there was Kunta Kente, and at the end there was Alex Haley. We marveled at the stories that were told by the different characters who presented their lives to us. We were envious, yet understanding, and drawn to Haley's "Roots."
discussions about "the family," "family holdings," and what tasks each family member would be assigned - all for the enrichment of the family. Today, because of our hurried lives, little time is spent together around the dinner table. Families have moved apart and what was discussed at the dinner table is not talked about any longer. The glue that held families together in the past has loosened, and in many cases today, does not bond them together any longer.
Once, Sunday was the day of the week when families would join together to share in their weekly experiences. Now families no longer have or take the time to come together. It sometimes takes months or even years in advance to plan to get together. Thanksgiving and Christmas are generally the time of the year in my family when a few of us will get together. I remember years ago when I was a child the 4th of July was the date to remember when we would all get together at a relatives home who lived somewhere in the country and share fresh killed chicken, B.B. Q., potato salad, ice creams and watermelon. The older family members and close friends would sit and talk, sharing the news and whereabouts of others who for one reason or another would not be there. Experiences of what life was like fifty years before were shared. What was it like in your family? Who came from somewhere in Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, or right here in the United States? All those stories would all be lost, gone silently to the grave.
Many years ago my son Allen asked me about our family history. I sadly had no answer for him. But, it got me to thinking, is there a way that families can preserve their family's history? It was a question that I wrestled with for many years. Being a church Deacon I remembered a verse of scripture that said, "Write it down and put it in a book". So, I wrote a workbook in which a family would be prompted to record their history - Family Keepsake Systems Family Registry.Added by S Laramore
